This delicate bush displays a pale green hue during the summer, transforming into a vibrant red in the autumn. The symmetrical and oval form of Kochia Trichophylla makes it an exceptional foliage plant, standing out in any flower garden. With a height of 28 inches, it is particularly striking when grown as a hedge along the border or in groups of three for added focal interest. To cultivate Kochia Burning Bush in regions with a lengthy growing season, direct outdoor sowing in a prepared seed bed is suitable. For an earlier start, consider initiating the growth of Burning Bush seeds indoors and later transplant them outdoors once the threat of frost has passed. Optimal growth for the Kochia Burning Bush is achieved in full sun.

Sowing & Growing
Start by sowing the seeds indoors at a temperature between 70-75°F, about 4-6 weeks before planning to plant them outdoors. Ensure no cover is used during sowing, as light aids in germination, which typically takes 10-15 days. Alternatively, seeds can be sown directly outdoors in spring after the threat of frost has passed.
For optimal growth, transplant the seedlings when they have at least two sets of true leaves. Space them 18-24 inches apart in full sun and well-draining soil. Moderate fertilization is recommended. This annual plant is highly tolerant of hot weather but may take some time to establish in cooler conditions. To maintain a neat appearance, shear the plants regularly. They have a dense, rounded habit and reach heights of 2 1/2 – 3 feet, showcasing green, narrow, feathery foliage that turns red in the autumn. While its green flowers are not particularly showy, this plant is valued for its vigorous growth, making it suitable for borders, hedging, screening, and as an accent in the garden. Keep in mind that these plants tend to self-sow around the garden.
