Adenium Obesum, commonly known as the desert rose, is a shrubby succulent featuring glossy green leaves and striking red-pink flowers. Indigenous to Africa and the Arabian Peninsula, this plant requires year-round cultivation under glass in the UK due to its native distribution. It is particularly favoured for bonsai cultivation, thanks to its distinctive swollen caudex that serves as a water reservoir. It’s important to note that while Adenium Obesum can be toxic, its sap poses a toxicity risk only to humans. The plant typically reaches a size of 100cm in height with a 100cm spread.

Sowing & Growing
Begin by soaking the seeds in warm water for a minimum of 2-4 hours to rehydrate them; our recommended approach is an overnight soak followed by planting the next morning. Utilize a seed tray filled with a well-draining potting mix, such as a 50/50 combination of Cactus Compost & Perlite, though we prefer coco coir. Create a 3- to 4-inch layer of the potting mixture in the seed tray.
After the seeds have soaked, carefully place them on the potting mixture surface, spacing them 1-2 inches apart, and barely cover them with the potting mixture. Water the Adenium seeds thoroughly to moisten the potting mixture in the seed tray. Water them once a week, ensuring the potting mixture is almost dry; alternatively, mist them with a spray bottle if preferred. Do not let the mixture dry out, and avoid waterlogging.
Maintain air temperatures around the Adenium seeds at approximately 85 degrees Fahrenheit. Ideally, use a propagator and ensure a good light source. Move the seed tray into full sunlight when the seeds germinate and start to sprout.
Transplant the seedlings when they have at least three sets of “true” leaves, usually about one month after planting the seeds. While there are various methods to achieve the same results, the fundamentals remain consistent. If you choose an alternative approach, be aware that we cannot be held responsible for any potential failures. Our stock undergoes spot checks upon receipt from suppliers before allowing the seeds to leave our premises, ensuring you receive high-germination seeds.

I have just bought all my new seeds for next year’s vegetables after having such great results this year. Budget seeds are so helpful, I’m a newbie in the veg growing world and they have been helpful in choosing the best seeds to start with etc. also much cheaper than elsewhere so if I do mess up in the future it isn’t costing me so much. I thoroughly recommend Budget Seeds for all your veg and flower seeds.
