Useful Information

Sowing & Growing

Sow the seeds under glass during spring or autumn. Before sowing, chip the seeds and soak them for 24 hours in warm water. Plant them 2mm deep in moist, well-drained seed compost. Enclose the tray in a clear plastic bag or cover it with a sheet of clear plastic, then place it in a cold frame or greenhouse. Maintain soil moisture through misting, avoiding excessive wetness. Keep the temperature between 18-29°C for an optimal environment. Germination typically occurs in about 30-60 days.

If germination doesn’t happen, consider cold stratification by moving the seeds to 4°C for a few weeks, then return them to warmth. Alternatively, leave the seeds under glass over winter, allowing natural cold to create favorable conditions for germination as the weather warms in the following spring. Once germinated, introduce air circulation. When the seedlings have developed 2 true leaves, transplant them into individual pots. Plant them outdoors when there is at least 45 days until the next expected frost.
