Sowing & Growing
Sow the seeds indoors during late winter to spring. Before sowing, chip or scarify the seeds and soak them in warm water for 24 hours. Surface sow the seeds onto moist, well-drained seed compost, covering them lightly with a sprinkling of soil. Maintain an ideal temperature of 20-22°C for germination, which typically takes around 15-20 days. Once the seedlings are large enough to handle, transplant them to 8cm pots and continue growing them under glass.
In the UK, it is recommended to cultivate this plant under glass. It thrives in heavy, clayey, alkaline, and moist soils, showing tolerance to various soil types. While it prefers full sun, it can also tolerate partial sun. Adequate watering is essential, mimicking its native African habitat with up to 1500mm of annual rainfall. Water regularly but avoid over-watering. The plant prefers a temperature of 25°C but can tolerate down to 15°C.
To prevent excessive legginess, pinch out the growing tips to promote bushiness. This plant requires minimal attention and can be propagated through cuttings placed in moist sand or vermiculite.

I have just bought all my new seeds for next year’s vegetables after having such great results this year. Budget seeds are so helpful, I’m a newbie in the veg growing world and they have been helpful in choosing the best seeds to start with etc. also much cheaper than elsewhere so if I do mess up in the future it isn’t costing me so much. I thoroughly recommend Budget Seeds for all your veg and flower seeds.
