Arabica Coffee is a highly significant commercial plant originally hailing from the lush forests of Ethiopia and South Sudan. While it grows as a small tree, reaching up to 8 meters in its natural habitat, cultivation often involves pruning it into a more manageable shrub to ease the harvesting process. Featuring elliptical, glossy green leaves and fragrant white flowers, it produces yellow to purple fruits. Coffea arabica serves as the primary source of the ubiquitous coffee we enjoy and finds applications in liqueurs, flavourings, and as a caffeine source. It is commonly cultivated as a house plant.

Sowing & Growing
Begin by soaking the coffee seeds in water for a 24-hour period. Subsequently, plant the seeds in damp sand or moist vermiculite, ensuring proper drainage. Alternatively, you can position the seeds between moistened coffee sacks, watering them twice daily and ensuring effective drainage. Once germination occurs, delicately extract the sprouted seed from the sand, vermiculite, or burlap bags.
Prepare a well-drained, loamy soil with a rich humus content, incorporating rotted manure, bone meal, and dried blood. If this specific soil is unavailable, opt for a lightweight, porous alternative. Create a hole approximately 1.25 cm deep in the soil and place the seed flat side down, lightly covering it with soil. Avoid pressing the soil firmly, and consider adding a 1/2-inch layer of mulched grass for moisture retention, removing it once germination is complete.
Maintain daily watering, ensuring the soil remains consistently well-drained yet moist. Striking a balance is crucial, as excessive or insufficient water can harm the seed. Post-germination, either leave the coffee plant undisturbed or transplant it carefully into soil with a low pH (acidic) and high nitrogen content. Enhance soil porosity by incorporating coarse sand or basalt gravel dust, and consider adding manure. For ongoing mineral support and pH maintenance, use orchid-appropriate fertilizer sparingly on the coffee plant.

I have just bought all my new seeds for next year’s vegetables after having such great results this year. Budget seeds are so helpful, I’m a newbie in the veg growing world and they have been helpful in choosing the best seeds to start with etc. also much cheaper than elsewhere so if I do mess up in the future it isn’t costing me so much. I thoroughly recommend Budget Seeds for all your veg and flower seeds.
