Seeds for the climbing shrub Boston Ivy, scientifically known as Parthenocissus, offer the potential for robust and deciduous climbers. These plants exhibit vigorous growth, featuring tendrils or disk-like suckers and lobed or palmate leaves that often showcase brilliant autumnal colours. While the green flowers may be inconspicuous, they are occasionally succeeded by attractive blue or black berries, adding to the overall appeal of these resilient climbers.

Sowing & Growing
Initiate the Boston Ivy seed-starting process with two consecutive procedures.
Stratification involves storing seeds in the refrigerator for 30 to 60 days. Mix the seeds with moist sand, place them in a resealable plastic bag, and keep them in the refrigerator’s vegetable drawer. Regularly check the sand’s moisture level during this period to mimic the winter cycle. The second step, scarification, entails soaking seeds in lukewarm water for 24 hours in a small plastic bowl to encourage germination.
When it’s time to sow the seeds, opt for a seed tray, although an outdoor cold frame is also suitable. Fill each section of the tray almost to the top with high-quality potting soil, planting a seed in each sector. Gently press the seeds into the growing medium with your fingertip, avoiding covering them. Carefully water the seeds and maintain soil moisture until the seedlings emerge.
When transplanting your seedlings, place them approximately 12 inches from the wall they are intended to climb, with a spacing of two to three feet apart. Prepare the soil a week before planting by cultivating it to a depth of at least 12 inches and incorporating compost. Once the seedlings are in the ground, provide a thorough watering. During the first growing season, water deeply once a week, and afterward, only water if the weather turns exceptionally dry. This comprehensive approach will facilitate successful germination and growth for your Boston Ivy.

I have just bought all my new seeds for next year’s vegetables after having such great results this year. Budget seeds are so helpful, I’m a newbie in the veg growing world and they have been helpful in choosing the best seeds to start with etc. also much cheaper than elsewhere so if I do mess up in the future it isn’t costing me so much. I thoroughly recommend Budget Seeds for all your veg and flower seeds.
