Strawflowers, often cultivated in rows for cutting and creating dried flower arrangements, also contribute a radiant touch to garden borders. Their shimmering, pointed petals reflect the sunlight like precious gems. Regular deadheading is advisable, or you can harvest them for dried floral displays just as the flowers begin to unfurl, allowing them to dry in a cool, dry location. As annuals with a half-hardy nature, these strawflowers exhibit a height range of 2-3.5 feet and a width of 1-1.5 feet. They thrive in full sun and require well-drained soil. Blooming from summer to fall, these flowers display shades of gold, pink, red, scarlet, silver, yellow, and white within 12 weeks from seed to bloom.

Sowing & Growing
Sow directly on the surface indoors from January to April, using moist and well-drained seed compost. Ensure adequate light for germination, typically taking 7-14 days at 22-24°C. Once the seedlings are large enough to handle, transplant them into pots and continue growing in cooler conditions. When the last threat of frost has passed, plant them outdoors with a spacing of 30cm. With a height potential of 75cm, this plant is easy to cultivate in various well-drained soils, even in poorer conditions. Keep in mind that it self-sows freely, so regular deadheading may be necessary to control its spread.

I have just bought all my new seeds for next year’s vegetables after having such great results this year. Budget seeds are so helpful, I’m a newbie in the veg growing world and they have been helpful in choosing the best seeds to start with etc. also much cheaper than elsewhere so if I do mess up in the future it isn’t costing me so much. I thoroughly recommend Budget Seeds for all your veg and flower seeds.
