Cucumbers, a staple in salads, can be cultivated both in a glasshouse and outdoors. While the long green varieties found in stores require a heated glasshouse, other types can thrive in your garden or be started earlier with cloches, cold frames, or polytunnels.
For gardeners, the Telegraph Improved variety is a top choice, closely resembling traditional glasshouse types. It yields medium-long, dark green fruits and can be grown outdoors, in glasshouses, under polythene tunnels, or in cold frames.

Sowing & Growing
Sow Telegraph Improved cucumber seeds from February to May. Plant the seeds on their edges to prevent rotting, 1.5 cm (1/2″) deep, in individual 9 cm (3 1/2″) pots under glass at a constant temperature of 21°C (day and night). Once the seedlings have developed three true leaves, transplant them into 15 cm (6″) pots. When the plants reach about 10 cm (4″) in height, transfer them to their final positions in large pots or growbags under glass. Provide support for the plants and tie in the stems as needed. Remove male flowers (those without fruit behind them) as soon as they appear. Cucumbers will mature from July to September. They thrive in a moist atmosphere, so to maintain humidity, regularly spray the greenhouse floor with water during hot weather, but ensure good ventilation to prevent disease.

I have just bought all my new seeds for next year’s vegetables after having such great results this year. Budget seeds are so helpful, I’m a newbie in the veg growing world and they have been helpful in choosing the best seeds to start with etc. also much cheaper than elsewhere so if I do mess up in the future it isn’t costing me so much. I thoroughly recommend Budget Seeds for all your veg and flower seeds.
