Sowing & Growing
Sow cucumber seeds indoors from February to May, planting them on their edge at a depth of 0.5cm (¼”) in small compost-filled pots. Ensure thorough watering and position them in a warm environment, ideally at 20-25°C. Keep the soil consistently moist. Seedlings typically emerge within 7-14 days. Once the plants have grown 3 or 4 leaves, transplant them into larger pots and continue to cultivate them in cooler, but not cold, conditions. In May-June, plant them outdoors in large pots, growing bags, or well-drained, fertile soil within the greenhouse border. Harvest your cucumbers from July to October.
Cucumbers thrive in a humid atmosphere, so make sure to moisten the greenhouse regularly. Once the fruits appear, regular feeding is essential for optimal yields. Provide support for the plants and guide them upwards using canes, strings, or netting. Limit lateral growth once 4 sets of leaves have formed. Male flowers (those lacking swelling behind the petals) play a crucial role as pollinators for female flowers, which produce the fruits. Allow a small number of male flowers to remain on the plants until they fade. If your cucumber fruits develop a few small, white spines, these can be gently rubbed off.

I have just bought all my new seeds for next year’s vegetables after having such great results this year. Budget seeds are so helpful, I’m a newbie in the veg growing world and they have been helpful in choosing the best seeds to start with etc. also much cheaper than elsewhere so if I do mess up in the future it isn’t costing me so much. I thoroughly recommend Budget Seeds for all your veg and flower seeds.
