Description Wild marjoram is a native British perennial reaching about 60 cm in height. At the top of the stem, dark purple buds open into clusters of flowers that resemble thyme, appearing purple, pink, or occasionally white. The leaves are elongated and oval, typically with a slight tooth margin, and they emit a pleasant scent. Although our native plant is the same species as the Mediterranean herb oregano, its cooler habitat gives it a milder, less earthy aroma.
Habitat Information Wild marjoram is a tall, herbaceous perennial that favours dry, infertile soils that are usually calcareous. It is found in habitats such as grasslands, hedge banks, road verges, and scrub, but not in grazed pasture, since it is vulnerable to grazing. The species has limited vegetative spread and relies heavily on seed for reproduction; as a result, it can disappear from non-disturbed sites where taller, more vigorous vegetation prevails. Nevertheless, it produces abundant seed that can remain dormant in the soil and reappear after disturbances like fire or physical disruption. It also quickly colonizes bare or sparsely vegetated areas such as quarries. Its long, extensive root system allows access to subsoil water during drought. The flowers attract butterflies particularly well.
Growing Information Seeds can be sown at any time of year, though autumn sowing tends to yield the best results.

I have just bought all my new seeds for next year’s vegetables after having such great results this year. Budget seeds are so helpful, I’m a newbie in the veg growing world and they have been helpful in choosing the best seeds to start with etc. also much cheaper than elsewhere so if I do mess up in the future it isn’t costing me so much.
