Wild Teasel

£0.69 incl. VAT

Teasel is a robust, tall biennial which can grow to 6 feet or more. All parts of the plant have spines – leaves, stalks and egg shaped flower heads. The plant and seed heads persist into winter, providing a bit of structural interest in a wildlife area when other plants have died back.

Useful Information

Sowing & Growing

Sow directly where they are to flower the following year. Sow 6mm deep into prepared soil which has been raked to a fine tilth. Sow in clumps or shallow drills with 30cm spacing. Water regularly. Germination takes 14 days approx. but will vary depending on the temperature. Thin to final spacing of 30cm. light frosts will not harm the seedlings.

Very easy to grow. Will tolerate any soil or situation. Ideally plant in a corner or area where the plant can be contained as it will spread freely if left unchecked.

This will self-seed freely, cut back and remove plants which may cause trouble before the seed matures. Being biennial the plants only live a few years.
