Sweet Pea ‘Bijou Mixed’ is a semi-dwarf variety featuring compact, bushy plants that reach a height of only 16 inches. The charmingly fragrant flowers come in a delightful array of red, pink, white, salmon, purple, and lavender. Well-suited for containers, hanging baskets, and small garden spaces, you can extend the blooming season by regularly removing old flowers before they set seed. This annual flower is best sown indoors in preparation for spring, approximately 4-6 weeks before the last frost. For outdoor planting, target spring or autumn in milder climates, ensuring a seed depth of 1/2 inch. Keep in mind that germination may take anywhere from 10 to 21 days.

Sowing & Growing
Sweet pea seeds can be sown indoors in October for later transplantation outdoors in spring, or you can opt for direct outdoor sowing from March to April. During the autumn, sow three seeds per 7.5cm (3″) pot at a depth of 1cm (1/2″) in well-draining seed-sowing compost. Place the pots in a propagator or seal them inside a plastic bag and maintain a temperature of 20-25°C (68-77°F) until germination occurs, typically taking 10-21 days. Once germinated, nurture sweet peas in cooler conditions before moving them to a cold frame for overwintering.
For spring sowings, you can directly sow the seeds outdoors into drills at a depth of 2.5cm (1″) and spaced 7.5cm (3″) apart. To encourage bushier growth, pinch out the growing points of each stem once the second pair of leaves has opened. In spring, plant the sweet peas at a distance of 23cm (9″) apart in any well-drained garden soil exposed to full sun. Train the stems onto a suitable support, such as trellis or a free-standing climbing frame. Utilize sweet pea support rings to secure the stems to their growing supports while they establish themselves.

I have just bought all my new seeds for next year’s vegetables after having such great results this year. Budget seeds are so helpful, I’m a newbie in the veg growing world and they have been helpful in choosing the best seeds to start with etc. also much cheaper than elsewhere so if I do mess up in the future it isn’t costing me so much. I thoroughly recommend Budget Seeds for all your veg and flower seeds.
