Sowing & Growing
Sow indoors all year round but prior to sowing, chip or scarify the seed and soak it for 2-3 days, changing the water daily. Drain and surface sow onto a moist but well-drained sandy seed compost. The ideal temperature is 24-27°C, and bottom heat may be beneficial. Keep the environment moist but not overly wet, as it is prone to damping off; hence, good sowing hygiene is essential. Germination can take anywhere from 1 to 6 months, and even under optimal conditions, it might be erratic. Transplant the seedlings to individual pots when they have 3-4 true leaves, and continue growing them under glass.
Maintain a minimum temperature of 10°C. While it is best grown under glass in the UK, you can attempt outdoor cultivation in a warm, sheltered garden. The plant thrives in compost enriched with coir, grit, and bark. Water generously during growth, but keep it almost dry in winter. It typically takes several years for the plant to flower from seed.

I have just bought all my new seeds for next year’s vegetables after having such great results this year. Budget seeds are so helpful, I’m a newbie in the veg growing world and they have been helpful in choosing the best seeds to start with etc. also much cheaper than elsewhere so if I do mess up in the future it isn’t costing me so much. I thoroughly recommend Budget Seeds for all your veg and flower seeds.
