For those seeking a perplexing plant, look no further than Turk’s Turban squash, also known as “Turk’s Turban Gourd.” The appearance of this winter squash’s fruit is akin to something from outer space, adding to its mystique. Compounding the confusion, it goes by various names. As a member of the Cucurbita family, Turk’s Turban is closely related to pumpkins, squash, and gourds. Consequently, pumpkin enthusiasts might label it as a pumpkin, those fond of gourds might consider it an ornamental gourd, and squash growers commonly identify it as a winter squash. The categorization of this festive vegetable (technically a fruit) is left to your discretion.

Plant the seeds on their edge, 1.5cm (1/2″) deep in pots or trays between April and May, spacing them 2.5cm (1″) apart. This prevents rotting, and the process should be done under glass at a temperature of 20°C (68°F) using high-quality seed sowing compost. For outdoor sowing, plant directly into the growing site from mid-May to June, placing 2 to 3 seeds in each position and burying them 1.5cm (1/2″) deep. Ensure a spacing of 90-100cm (36-40″) apart.
For greenhouse sowings, gradually acclimate the seedlings once they develop their first pair of rough leaves. Transplant them to the growing site in late May to early June, maintaining a spacing of 90-100cm (36-40″) apart, after the risk of frost has passed. Outdoor sowings should be thinned to leave one plant per station. Expect maturity between September and October.

I have just bought all my new seeds for next year’s vegetables after having such great results this year. Budget seeds are so helpful, I’m a newbie in the veg growing world and they have been helpful in choosing the best seeds to start with etc. also much cheaper than elsewhere so if I do mess up in the future it isn’t costing me so much.
