This plant never fails to attract attention in gardens where it thrives. With its intricately divided foliage and abundant, vivid scarlet flowers adorned with central black, ladybird-like markings, it stands out. Despite being an annual, if it finds a favourable spot in your garden, it will generously reseed itself year after year. Hardy across the British Isles, it reaches a height of 30-60cm. For an effortlessly cultivated burst of colour, few flowers rival poppies, consistently blooming profusely throughout the summer.

Sowing & Growing
Simply sow and let nature take its course—almost all will bloom in the first year from planting. Choose between February-May or September-October for optimal results. This flower prefers to be sown directly where it will bloom, as it dislikes disturbance. Select a clean, weed-free seed bed, and ensure full sun exposure with well-drained soil. Avoid planting among grass, as germination may be hindered. Alternatively, sow indoors in autumn for blooms the following year, overwinter in a greenhouse, and transplant carefully in spring. For same-season flowering, sow directly in spring. These flowers are low-maintenance and thrive in a cut-and-come-again style. Regularly trim flowers to promote growth and extend the blooming period. Deadhead if self-seeding is not desired.

I have just bought all my new seeds for next year’s vegetables after having such great results this year. Budget seeds are so helpful, I’m a newbie in the veg growing world and they have been helpful in choosing the best seeds to start with etc. also much cheaper than elsewhere so if I do mess up in the future it isn’t costing me so much. I thoroughly recommend Budget Seeds for all your veg and flower seeds.
