Fast-growing, low-maintenance, and water-wise, Penstemon Spectabilis captures attention with its vibrant display. This evergreen perennial showcases a stunning array of wide-mouthed, tubular flowers in shades of rose, lavender, or azure during the spring and early summer. These blossoms adorn leafy stems, with each stem capable of bearing up to 100 flowers on its upper half. The smooth, lance-shaped to oval leaves, ranging up to 4 inches in length, elegantly clasp the stems. Known as Showy Beardtongue, Showy Penstemon, Royal Penstemon, or Royal Beardtongue, this exceptional California native is ideal for sunny, water-wise gardens and makes a striking impact when mass-planted in dry, mixed borders. Penstemon spectabilis (Royal Beardtongue) typically attains a height of 1.2m and a spread of 1.2m over 2-5 years.

Sowing & Growing
sow seeds onto high-quality soil-based compost. This is best done between February and April or in September. Ensure that the seeds are covered with fine grit or compost to a depth approximately equal to their size. Germination time varies but typically occurs around 21 days, and it may accelerate if the temperature is maintained at 15 to 20°C. Sowing can be done from February to April and then again from June to August. Harvesting is typically carried out from June to September.

I have just bought all my new seeds for next year’s vegetables after having such great results this year. Budget seeds are so helpful, I’m a newbie in the veg growing world and they have been helpful in choosing the best seeds to start with etc. also much cheaper than elsewhere so if I do mess up in the future it isn’t costing me so much. I thoroughly recommend Budget Seeds for all your veg and flower seeds.
