The Marsh-mallow presents an appealing appearance with compact clusters of sizable, pale pink to nearly white flowers, each approximately 4cm in diameter. The stems, reaching a height of about 1.2m, feature a downy texture and bear greyish, triangular leaves, which tend to wither in the autumn. This hardy perennial blooms from mid-summer to early autumn, and the flowering period is succeeded by the development of flat, round fruits.

Sowing & Growing
You can simply sow directly, but we’ve found it much better to sow indoors in the Spring. Simply surface sow individual seeds 20mm apart onto moist, well-drained seed compost, only just covering with a sprinkling of soil so you don’t block the light. Germination should happen between 10-14 days, but you need to keep the temperature between 15-21°C for this to occur successfully.
Once your seedlings are large enough to handle, which should be in 3-4 weeks, you can transplant them to individual pots. Be careful, however, as the stem is rather fragile so handle the leaves only. Then you’re ready to grow them on in bright cool conditions before acclimatising them to plant out between May and June.
When planting you must consider that it does prefer a well-drained, moderately fertile soil in full Sun, and may require staking in exposed sites. This genus can be prone to rust fungus too, so treat with fungicide if desired.
Alternatively these can be sown into a cold frame in mid-summer and planted out the following Spring.

I have just bought all my new seeds for next year’s vegetables after having such great results this year. Budget seeds are so helpful, I’m a newbie in the veg growing world and they have been helpful in choosing the best seeds to start with etc. also much cheaper than elsewhere so if I do mess up in the future it isn’t costing me so much. I thoroughly recommend Budget Seeds for all your veg and flower seeds.
