First introduced in 1820, the flowering flax became a beloved feature of cottage gardens, with the larger flowered rubrum variety being particularly cherished. Our collection presents a rare mix of colours, including red, white, salmon, and lilac, with many showcasing darker eyes at the centres of their glistening, cup-shaped flowers. This annual variety is effortlessly cultivated, featuring beautiful burgundy centres, adding a touch of elegance to any garden.

Sowing & Growing
Plant directly after the last frost date, and for continuous blooming, sow additional seeds every two to three weeks. If indoor seed starting is necessary, utilize peat pots and carefully acclimate seedlings to prevent transplant shock. Begin the sowing process by lightly covering the seeds to a depth of 5mm (1/8″). Expect germination within 20 to 25 days. Thin the seedlings to 15cm (6″) apart.
During the growing phase, enhance blooming by cutting back approximately half of the flowering stems in early summer. Cultivate Linum in well-drained soil with a pH range of 5.0 to 7.0, avoiding the use of fertilizer and manure, as rich soil can hinder blooming. Given Linum’s aversion to root disturbance, it is not recommended for transplanting; instead, opt for direct seed sowing to promote optimal growth.

I have just bought all my new seeds for next year’s vegetables after having such great results this year. Budget seeds are so helpful, I’m a newbie in the veg growing world and they have been helpful in choosing the best seeds to start with etc. also much cheaper than elsewhere so if I do mess up in the future it isn’t costing me so much. I thoroughly recommend Budget Seeds for all your veg and flower seeds.
