Microgreens, harvested just after the development of cotyledon leaves, serve as a nutritional supplement, visual enhancement, and a boost to flavour and texture. This particular mix is not for the faint-hearted, offering a pronounced and pungent peppery bite. It’s especially delightful in sandwiches! The blend includes 10% Radish leaf Sangria, 10% Bulls blood leaf beet, 10% Rape, 50% Cress, and 20% Mustard.

Sowing & Growing
For indoor microgreen cultivation, begin by generously filling a seed tray with compost, then level it by cutting away excess compost with a board. Press the compost down using a precisely fitted homemade board. Scatter the seeds quite thickly, maintaining a spacing of about 0.5cm, with your thumb and forefinger. Once the seeds are spread, lightly cover them with seed compost (approximately 0.5cm deep). Gently water the tray and place it on a south-facing windowsill, ensuring the compost stays consistently moist.
For outdoor sowing starting in mid-April, use containers like window boxes or hanging baskets. Utilize these spaces before planting summer flowers. Alternatively, sow seeds directly into the garden bed. However, be cautious about potential weed growth, and not all weeds are edible; some, like groundsel, can be harmful. If sowing directly into the garden, follow these steps: create a shallow trench (10cm wide, 5cm deep), with subsequent trenches 10cm apart. Backfill each trench with weed-free seed or multi-purpose compost. Scatter the seeds generously (about 0.5cm apart), cover them lightly with more seed compost, and water gently. Warmer soil accelerates germination, with harvesting typically ready 3-4 weeks after sowing.

I have just bought all my new seeds for next year’s vegetables after having such great results this year. Budget seeds are so helpful, I’m a newbie in the veg growing world and they have been helpful in choosing the best seeds to start with etc. also much cheaper than elsewhere so if I do mess up in the future it isn’t costing me so much. I thoroughly recommend Budget Seeds for all your veg and flower seeds.
