Sowing & Growing

Sow Midnight Courgette seeds indoors between April and May, and outdoors from mid-May to June. When sowing indoors, plant the seeds on the edge, 1.5cm (1/2″) deep, in pots or trays under glass at a temperature of 20°C. Keep them 2.5cm (1″) apart, using high-quality seed sowing compost. For outdoor sowing, plant the seeds directly into the growing site, 1.5cm (1/2″) deep. Place 2 to 3 seeds in each position, spacing them 60cm (24″) apart.

Following the initial growth phase, greenhouse sowings should be gradually hardened off once the plants have developed the first pair of rough leaves. Transplant them to the growing site in late May to early June, maintaining a spacing of 60cm (24″) between plants. Outdoor sowings should be thinned to one plant per station.

Expect the Midnight Courgette to reach maturity between July and October, with fruits measuring approximately 10-15cm (4-6″) in length. Harvest the courgettes during this period.

To enhance productivity, consider growing Midnight Courgette in containers or raised beds on a summer patio. Use a rich potting compost and feed the plants once a week with a high-potash feed for optimal results.
