Chinese Cabbage Yuki F1

£0.99

Yuki F1 Chinese Cabbage, also known as Yuki Chinese Leaves, yields compact, short cylindrical heads that are tightly wrapped and boast delightful flavor. Its vigorous growth pattern allows for early maturity from spring planting. This cabbage forms well-sized barrel-shaped heads with excellent taste and is easily cultivated for both summer and autumn harvests. With a slow bolting rate and robust disease resistance, it features crisp, light green leaves.

This variety is part of the growing interest in what is broadly termed “Oriental Vegetables,” a category gaining popularity each year. Yuki F1 Chinese Cabbage can be enjoyed raw in salads or lightly cooked, making it a versatile ingredient for stir-fries and various Chinese-style dishes.

Sowing & Growing

Sow Chinese Cabbage seeds from April to July. Early sowings can be done under glass at a temperature of 20-25°C (68-77°F). Plant the seeds 13mm (½”) deep in trays or modules with free-draining seed sowing compost, lightly covering them with vermiculite or sieved compost. Alternatively, later sowings can be sown directly outdoors in a well-prepared seedbed, at a depth of 13mm (½”) and with a distance of 30cm (12″) between rows.

For seedlings under glass, transplant them into trays and nurture them in cooler conditions until the risk of frost has passed. Once they have developed 2-3 true leaves, transplant them to the growing site, spacing them 30-35cm (12-14in) apart between plants and rows. For those sown directly outdoors, thin them out when they are large enough to handle, maintaining the same spacings as mentioned above. Don’t discard the thinnings, as they can be consumed as salad leaves.

Expect maturity from July to October.
