Centaurea cyanus, ‘Polka Dot’ Cornflower RHS Perfect for PollinatorsAttractive to pollinators We are very pleased to be able to reintroduce this particularly fine Cornflower variety. Dating back to about 1960, it is one of those varieties actually bred for use by amateur gardeners whereas nearly all modern varieties are bred with the professional pack market in mind. At the time of its introduction, ‘Polka Dot’ was considered a startling addition to the range of dwarf Cornflowers. There is a full range of colours including blue, maroon, red, rose, pink, lavender and white. The uniform plants of bushy habit make an ideal bedding display lasting all summer. Our seed comes from maintained original raiser’s stocks. 1ft (30cm) This old garden favourite is both a splendid border plant and also a fine flower for cutting. Easily grown, it also makes a most attractive pot plant for the cold greenhouse

Sowing & Growing
Sow outdoors, March-May or August-October, where they are to flower, 0.5cm (¼”) deep, directly into finely-prepared, well-drained soil, which has already been watered. Seedlings usually appear in 14-28 days. Thin seedlings to 20cm (8″) apart. Water well until plants are established. For a continuous display, make sowings at two to three-week intervals. Sowings made in curves, rather than straight lines, often create a more pleasing effect. Flowers: June-September. Late summer and autumn sowings will flower the following year, often earlier than spring sowings.

I have just bought all my new seeds for next year’s vegetables after having such great results this year. Budget seeds are so helpful, I’m a newbie in the veg growing world and they have been helpful in choosing the best seeds to start with etc. also much cheaper than elsewhere so if I do mess up in the future it isn’t costing me so much. I thoroughly recommend Budget Seeds for all your veg and flower seeds.
