Useful Information

Sowing & Growing

For successful germination, sow the seeds indoors between February and April. Surface sow them onto moist, well-drained seed compost, covering the seeds with a light sprinkling of soil. To maintain humidity, place the seeds in a propagator or seal them in a plastic bag. The optimal temperature for germination is around 20-25°C, and the process usually takes approximately 2-3 weeks. Once the seedlings are large enough to handle, transplant them into 8cm pots and allow them to grow. Acclimatize the seedlings and plant them outdoors after the risk of frost has passed.

To thrive, these plants prefer a rich, fertile, moist, and well-drained soil in full sun. Adding compost, manure, or leaf compost will further enhance the soil quality. For container-grown Petunias, a potting soil is ideal. Place them in a sheltered location away from drying winds. Watering 1-2 times per week is recommended, allowing the top 5cm of soil to dry out between waterings. Deep watering is essential, ensuring the top 20cm of soil becomes wet with each watering. Use a soluble fertilizer every 2-3 weeks to promote growth. It’s important to note that these seeds are very small, so handle them with care during planting.
