Sowing & Growing

For sowing Tumbler Tomato seeds, the recommended period is from January to April, start by sowing seeds indoors, placing them under glass at a depth of 0.5cm (1/4 in) in pots or trays filled with quality seed sowing compost. Lightly cover the seeds with a sprinkling of vermiculite or compost. Position the containers in a propagator, maintaining a temperature range of 18–21°C.

Upon reaching a suitable size, prick out the seedlings into 9cm (3 1/2in) pots. Later, transplant them into hanging baskets or containers. Given their bushy habit, these plants do not require sideshooting. Once the threat of frost has passed, move them outdoors. Ensure regular watering and feeding with a high-potash feed after the first truss has set.

Anticipate maturity from July to October. A handy tip is to provide some support to the stems as they become laden with fruits to prevent breakage. Nutritionally, Tumbler Tomatoes are high in vitamin C and lycopene. This variety is classified as determinate, meaning it has a bush type growth and does not require the removal of side shoots.
