The Black Russian tomatoes feature dark, deep red to shiny black fruits with prominent green shoulders, resembling a conker. The flesh, a deep reddish-green, offers a uniquely rich yet sweet taste that must be experienced to be fully appreciated. This indeterminate vine type matures early and is particularly well-suited for indoor growing. This tomato certainly lives up to its mysterious name!

Sowing & Growing
Sow between January and April for a harvest from July to October. Plant seeds under glass, burying them 0.5cm deep in pots or trays filled with quality seed sowing compost. Lightly cover with vermiculite or compost. Position containers in a propagator at a temperature of 18–21°C. Once seedlings are large enough to handle, transplant them into 9cm pots. When the plants reach 20cm in height, either transplant them to the greenhouse border soil, individual large pots, or place three plants per growbag. Alternatively, they can be planted outdoors after the threat of frost has passed.
For optimal yields, provide support for the plants and perform side shooting. Water and regularly and feed the plants with a high-potash fertilizer once the first truss has set. Due to the substantial weight of the fruits, it is recommended to allow only 3 or 4 trusses to develop per plant. While lower fruits may occasionally display irregular shapes, they remain full of flavour.

I have just bought all my new seeds for next year’s vegetables after having such great results this year. Budget seeds are so helpful, I’m a newbie in the veg growing world and they have been helpful in choosing the best seeds to start with etc. also much cheaper than elsewhere so if I do mess up in the future it isn’t costing me so much. I thoroughly recommend Budget Seeds for all your veg and flower seeds.
