After ALL danger of frost has passed, sow sunflower seeds directly in the garden. Ensure that the soil is well-drained and choose an open area that receives full sun. For taller varieties, plant them at the north end of the garden to prevent overshadowing other plants. Prior to planting, prepare the soil by removing weeds and incorporating organic matter into the top 6-8 inches. If compost is not available, you can add 1-2 inches of organic mulch after planting. Conduct a soil test after growing season to determine any necessary amendments for the following year. Plant the seeds in groups of 2 or 3, spacing them 18-24 inches apart depending on the variety. Lightly firm the soil, water the area, and maintain even moisture. Seedlings should emerge within 7-10 days. Once the seedlings have two sets of leaves, thin them to one plant per group.

I have just bought all my new seeds for next year’s vegetables after having such great results this year. Budget seeds are so helpful, I’m a newbie in the veg growing world and they have been helpful in choosing the best seeds to start with etc. also much cheaper than elsewhere so if I do mess up in the future it isn’t costing me so much. I thoroughly recommend Budget Seeds for all your veg and flower seeds.
