Useful Information

Sowing & Growing

Sow late summer for spring flowering or late winter for autumn flowering. Best sown under glass Dec-Apr. Surface sow into moist well-drained seed compost. Cover with a fine layer of soil or vermiculite. Keep moist but not wet. Ideal temp. 20°C. Germination takes 7-10 days. Transplant seedlings when large enough to handle to 8cm pots. Acclimatise and plant out once danger of frost has passed. Can be sown directly in late summer where they are to flower. Thin to 15cm spacing in October.

Prefers a growing temp. of 21°C during the day and 10°C at night. Max temp. 27°C. Requires full sun and excellent drainage.

Plants are usually disposed of after flowering but can be cut back hard for a flush of flowers later in summer. Deadheading extends the flowering period, but allow some to go to seed as they will self sow freely. You can gather the seed and re-sow it if desired.
