Pumpkin Munchkin Delicious Small Gourd

£0.59

The top-rated miniature pumpkin, known as ‘Munchkin’, measures between 10 to 12cm (3 to 4in) in width, boasting a vibrant tangerine-orange hue with pronounced indentations and a rounded, scalloped form. Munchkin is a vivid orange variety that matures early and yields a large quantity of small pumpkins that stay firm for an extended period. Its stems are delicate yet robust, making harvesting easier and reducing the risk of damage during packaging. Munchkin is a unique addition to any collection. They are perfect for drying and use in floral arrangements and fall decorations. Kids adore them, and florists and craft shops are always eager to stock them during the fall season. While it might be tempting to grow them purely for their aesthetic appeal, they are equally delicious. Munchkin pumpkins are highly sought after for their small, plentiful, and sweet chestnut-like flesh. They can be eaten whole or sliced and roasted with a sprinkle of olive oil, a dash of salt and pepper, and cooked for 45 minutes. For a twist, try roasting the seeds after soaking them in salt! Pumpkins are among the most attractive vegetables of the fall season. The finest specimens are gentle, soft, and have a rounded shape, making it possible to cultivate a variety of them to enjoy a range of beautiful colors. Removing the leaves will reveal a stunning display of pumpkin-shaped colour splotches throughout your garden. Munchkin is an excellent choice for a climbing plant in any garden and looks stunning draped over willow tepees.

Useful Information

Sowing & Growing

Sow  pumpkin seeds indoors from April to May, and outdoors from mid-May to June. Place seeds on their edge, burying them 1.5cm (1/2″) deep to prevent rotting. Indoors, sow in pots under glass at 20C using quality seed sowing compost. Outdoors, sow directly into the growing site, placing 2 to 3 seeds in each position with a spacing of 60cm (24″) apart.

After greenhouse sowings develop their first pair of rough leaves, gradually harden them off and transplant to the growing site in late May to early June, spacing them 60-90cm (24-36″) apart after the risk of frost has passed. For outdoor sowings, thin the plants to one per station.

Harvest the pumpkins from September to October. To ensure optimal growth, choose a sunny spot with rich fertile soil and water regularly, especially when the fruits start to swell.
