Chinese fountain grass is among the most favored late-flowering ornamental grasses for gardens. This clump-forming perennial showcases stunning, enduring bottlebrush flower spikes that range in color from buff to soft pink and light maroon, rising above its vibrant green leaves. In autumn, the foliage transforms into a striking golden-yellow, gradually fading until winter, when it dies back completely. Shortly thereafter, new growth begins to emerge. Pennisetum ‘Hameln’ achieves its greatest visual impact when planted in groups, yet it also stands out beautifully as an individual specimen or in patio containers. Since this grass reaches its peak appearance in late summer and autumn, it is advisable to pair it with early-flowering perennials or spring bulbs. Additionally, its flowers are excellent for both fresh and dried floral arrangements. The Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) has recognized Pennisetum alopecuroides ‘Hameln’ with the prestigious Award of Garden Merit, underscoring its esteemed status.
Prior to planting, immerse the roots of Pennisetum ‘Hameln’ in water for a duration of 3 to 6 hours. In the spring, place the bare roots of “Chinese fountain grass” into temporary pots filled with multipurpose compost, ensuring they are grown in a sheltered outdoor location. Select a pot that adequately accommodates the bare roots, ensuring that any prominent crown is positioned just beneath the soil surface while keeping the top growth exposed. Transplant into borders or permanent containers in late spring or early summer, once the plants are fully established. Position them in either sun or shade, depending on the specific variety.

Budget seeds are so helpful, I’m a newbie in the veg growing world and they have been helpful in choosing the best seeds to start with etc. also much cheaper than elsewhere so if I do mess up in the future it isn’t costing me so much.
