Sowing & Growing
The optimal period for planting these seeds falls in the spring, typically ranging from late February to early April. Before sowing, ensure that the soil temperature exceeds 7°C, using a soil thermometer for verification. In case the temperature is too low, employ a cloche to warm up the soil prior to sowing.
To plant the seeds, create small, shallow drills or holes approximately 1cm (0.4 inches) deep, spacing them around 30cm (12 inches) apart. Place 2-3 seeds in each hole and cover them with soil. Following sowing, gently water the soil. Maintain the soil’s moisture without allowing it to become waterlogged during the germination process, which typically spans 7-14 days.
Once the seedlings reach a height of a few centimetres, thin them out, leaving the strongest plant in each hole. Harvest Lettuce Ice Queen when the leaves are young and tender, usually 6-8 weeks after sowing. Optimal harvesting involves picking the outer leaves as needed, allowing the inner leaves to continue growing. Morning harvesting is recommended for crisper and fresher leaves.
Lettuce Ice Queen thrives in cooler conditions, ideally around 15-18°C. To prevent premature bolting or seed development in excessively high temperatures, monitor the weather closely and shield the plants from intense sunlight if necessary.

I have just bought all my new seeds for next year’s vegetables after having such great results this year. Budget seeds are so helpful, I’m a newbie in the veg growing world and they have been helpful in choosing the best seeds to start with etc. also much cheaper than elsewhere so if I do mess up in the future it isn’t costing me so much. I thoroughly recommend Budget Seeds for all your veg and flower seeds.
