The Organic Tomato Purple Calabash is a uniquely attractive and drought-tolerant tomato variety. This indeterminate plant, with regular leaves, yields small to medium-sized (2 1/2 to 3-inch) fruit that is flat, deeply ruffled, and showcases a striking chocolate-brown to deep-purple hue. The flavour profile is remarkably rich, offering a distinctive, almost wine-like taste with a citrus finish. In addition to its exceptional taste, this tomato is crack-resistant and exhibits good storage qualities.

Sowing & Growing
To sow tomato seeds successfully, choose the optimal time, typically between late March and early April in Britain, allowing sufficient time for seedlings’ growth before transplanting. Ensure a soil temperature ranging from 18°C to 21°C for ideal germination. Begin by filling a seed tray with compost and create small holes around 1cm deep using a dibber or pencil. Place one seed in each hole, covering them lightly with compost. Water the tray and cover it with cling film or a propagator lid to maintain necessary moisture and warmth for germination. After germination and the development of the first true leaves, transplant the seedlings into larger pots. Keep the plants in a sunny location, watering regularly for robust growth. Harvest tomatoes approximately 12 weeks post-planting, observing the colour change to red and a slight softness before picking. Harvest them as they ripen or wait for a larger yield. Enjoy the satisfaction of homegrown, delicious tomatoes!

I have just bought all my new seeds for next year’s vegetables after having such great results this year. Budget seeds are so helpful, I’m a newbie in the veg growing world and they have been helpful in choosing the best seeds to start with etc. also much cheaper than elsewhere so if I do mess up in the future it isn’t costing me so much. I thoroughly recommend Budget Seeds for all your veg and flower seeds.
