This organic growing substrate is made of coco coir, a by-product of the coconut industry. Not only does this make for a lightweight, moisture retaining substrate ideal for a wide range of use cases, but it also makes use of an otherwise unused by-product helping to reduce waste. This bag contains 50L of substrate.
For use in: Elevated Gardens, Green Walls, Rooftop Gardens, Hydroponic Cultivation, Seed Raising and Planting Mixes.
The coir substrate’s consistency lends itself to use in both recirculating and free drain hydroponics systems. The high Lignin content of this material makes it highly resistant to the wear and breakdown common in hydroponics systems. Coir is a natural fungicide, greatly reducing the incidence of root diseases. It’s easy to keep pH balanced as the substrate itself is neutral.
Our growing substrate is an optimal seed raising mix used either alone or combined with inorganic materials such as perlite. This product can serve as a direct replacement of peat in mixes and is fully renewable.
A suitable controlled release fertiliser should be mixed with this product prior to planting to help support plant nutrition. Alternatively a liquid fertiliser can be used to feed seedlings.
I have just bought all my new seeds for next year’s vegetables after having such great results this year. Budget seeds are so helpful, I’m a newbie in the veg growing world and they have been helpful in choosing the best seeds to start with etc. also much cheaper than elsewhere so if I do mess up in the future it isn’t costing me so much. I thoroughly recommend Budget Seeds for all your veg and flower seeds.
