Melon Queen Annes Pocket Very Aromatic

£0.39

The very aromatic and fragrant Queen Anne’s Pocket Melon (Cucumis melo L.), which is the size of an apple, was traditionally carried in the pockets of Victorian women prior to the invention of deodorants. The aroma is intense, smelling mostly of pineapple and juicy cantaloupe with a little trace of jasmine. Its beginnings date back more than three centuries. The fruits are eye-catching, with their rich gold and carmine stripes and smooth orange rinds. They are heavy crops that grow quickly when trellised, weighing up to 1 pound each. The aroma is wonderful, however the fruits are not the tastiest

Useful Information

Plant in moist seed compost pots from April to May, and then cover with a 1cm (½inch) layer of compost or vermiculite. Maintaining a temperature of approximately 20C will aid germination. Keep the compost’s surface damp but not soggy; germination takes seven to ten days on average.
When the seedlings reach the second leaf stage, transplant them into pots that are at least 10 cm (4 inches) in diameter for a few weeks before potting them into larger containers, directly into the greenhouse border, or into growbags with two plants each.
Give the plants something to climb on.
After four true leaves have formed, pinch out the growth tip. Next, train four lateral branches to the six-leaf stage and pinch out once more.
If required, pollinate by moving pollen from the male flowers
