For sowing Leek Carentan seeds, create shallow drills in the soil approximately 1cm deep and 30cm apart. Place the seeds in the drills, ensuring a spacing of about 2cm between them. Cover the seeds with soil and water gently. It’s advisable to sow these seeds in well-drained soil enriched with organic matter, maintaining a pH level of 6.0-7.0. The optimal germination temperature ranges from 10-20°C.

Once the seeds have germinated, and the seedlings reach a height of a few inches, thin them out to approximately 10cm apart. Leeks require ample water, particularly during the summer, so regular watering is essential. Additionally, you can feed them with a general-purpose fertilizer every few weeks to promote robust growth.

The prime time for harvesting Leek Carentan is in late autumn, typically around October or November, when they attain full maturity. To determine readiness, gently lift them from the soil and check that the stems are at least 2cm in diameter. Harvest by delicately using a fork to dig around the leek and lifting it from the soil. Remove any loose soil from the roots, trimming both leaves and roots to about 2cm. After harvesting, store the leeks in a cool, dry place for several weeks.
