Komatsuna, with its turnip-like leaves and increasingly spicy flavor as it matures, is a versatile vegetable that can be enjoyed raw in salads or lightly cooked in stir-fries and various Chinese dishes. This fast-growing crop can be harvested just one month after sowing and is resilient enough to survive winter with some cover, making it ideal for year-round cultivation both outdoors and indoors. With its growing popularity as part of the “Oriental Vegetables” category, Komatsuna is an excellent choice for those looking to explore new flavours in their meals.

To grow komatsuna successfully, sow seeds thinly at a depth of 0.5-1cm in rows spaced 20cm apart.
Once seedlings are large enough, thin them out and enjoy the thinnings in salads for a fresh taste of homegrown produce.
Mature plants, reaching heights of 35-40cm, can be harvested either whole or by picking individual leaves, similar to cabbage, providing versatile options for your meals.

I have just bought all my new seeds for next year’s vegetables after having such great results this year. Budget seeds are so helpful, I’m a newbie in the veg growing world and they have been helpful in choosing the best seeds to start with etc. also much cheaper than elsewhere so if I do mess up in the future it isn’t costing me so much. I thoroughly recommend Budget Seeds for all your veg and flower seeds.
