Embankment Slopes Hilly Banks Grass Seed

Starting at £6.99

Too often slopes become barren, muddy affairs as grasses unsuitable to the task aren’t able to take hold. Enter our Embankment Grass seed, a specially formulated seed mix designed to promote deep rooting in order to stabilise banks and slopes. Creeping Red Fescue is a top pick for lawns as it loves to spread across  bare earth, giving excellent coverage and erosion resistance owing to its creeping rhizomes. It is supported in this mix by both SSMG ( Kentucky Bluegrass) and hard fescue, two species of grass noted for their lush colour and low maintenance behaviours.

Comprising:

  • 75% Strong Creeping Red Fescue
  • 15% Smooth Stalked Meadow Grass
  • 10% Hard Fescue

Please Note: mix contents may vary from listed quantities due to supplier stock availability. We thank you for your understanding.

The greatest challenge in turfing slopes is the risk of rain washing the seed away before it has chance to root. We have some tips and tricks to help mitigate this;

  • You’ve already made the best first step by choosing a grass mix suitable for the job!
  • Condition the soil beforehand- mixing fertiliser into your soil before planting helps speed up the growth of the seeds
  • Mix the seed with a small amount of soil- this allows you to compact the seeds into the surface, reducing the risk of runoff leaving you high and dry
  • Use protective materials- mesh fabric covering the surface can help the seeds take hold quicker, and keeps them in place. Make sure to anchor your fabric, or you risk losing that as well
  • Avoid mowing while the seeds establish themselves. Once the shoots are a few inches long mow the grass at the longest setting possible to prevent tearing growth out. take extra care at the top and bottom of the slope as the blade can dig in where the angle changes.
