Timing for Sowing: Begin sowing in succession from January through June. For early sowings, utilize a cloche, a propagator placed on a windowsill, or a greenhouse environment. Location for Sowing: Disperse seeds thinly in a well-prepared seed bed, creating shallow drills approximately 1.5 cm (3/4 inch) deep. Ensure the area remains adequately watered. After germination, thin the seedlings to a spacing of 8 cm (3 inches) between each plant, ensuring they are securely and deeply planted to establish a strong anchor in the soil. Subsequent Actions: Once the seedlings reach a height of 6 to 8 cm (2.5 to 3 inches), they are suitable for transplanting to their permanent growing location. It is advisable to water the seedlings thoroughly the day prior to transplanting. Harvest Period: From June to October. Practical Advice: Protect young plants with netting or fleece to deter birds and insects. Additionally, place a collar around the base of each plant to guard against cabbage root fly infestations. Companion Planting: Mint is effective in repelling Cabbage White Butterflies, Aphids, and Flea Beetles, while Thyme helps to deter Cabbage worms. Other beneficial companions include Sage, Oregano, and Nasturtium.
