Agastache Foeniculum Golden Jubilee

£0.89 incl. VAT

First introduced in 2002, coinciding with the Queen’s Golden Jubilee, this exceptional, award-winning plant captures attention. In early spring, clusters of crinkled, purplish leaves emerge, undergoing a magical transformation into sweetly aromatic rosettes of golden-yellow. Adorning these rosettes are tubby, terminal spikes showcasing fluffy lavender flowers. Reaching a height of 2ft (60cm), this half-hardy perennial belongs to the Agastache genus within the foeniculum species, falling under the Lamiaceae/Labiatae family. Ideal for cut flowers, it thrives in full sun.

Useful Information

Sowing & Growing

Sow seeds indoors on moist, well-drained seed compost, pressing them lightly into the soil without covering, as they require light for germination. Propagate in an environment with temperatures between 18-20°C, and germination can take anywhere from 30 to 90 days. Water the seedlings only from the base to prevent damping off, and once germination starts, ensure proper ventilation. When the seedlings are large enough to handle, transplant them into 8cm pots. Acclimatize them and plant out after the risk of frost has passed, leaving 30cm spacing.

Alternatively, sow seeds directly in spring into well-prepared soil, incorporating 5cm of gravel and 10cm of compost mixed to a depth of 30cm. The plant thrives in full sun and well-draining soil, requiring minimal attention. Water every week or two and consider staking in exposed conditions. To promote a longer flowering window, cut back spent flowers. Although a short-lived perennial, it will self-seed moderately, so collecting seeds for future sowings is advisable.
