Zinnias, while not fond of transplantation, can be started indoors. It is advisable to sow them in peat pots, allowing the entire pot to be transplanted later to avoid root shock. If opting for outdoor sowing, ensure the soil is well-prepared by turning or replacing it. Plant the seeds at a shallow depth of 5mm beneath the topsoil when the weather is warm, and all risk of frost has passed.
They thrive in full sunlight, requiring temperatures exceeding 15 degrees Celsius, with optimal germination occurring at 26 degrees Celsius. While adaptable to various growing mediums, it is advisable to use humus-rich and fertile soil. Adequate drainage is essential, so it’s recommended to replace any hard or compact soil with a fresh compost mixture. Maintain daily watering to keep the soil consistently moist until successful germination occurs.
