The plant typically grows in wet, boggy habitats—along riverbanks and ponds, in ditches, and in marshy areas where damp conditions are needed. Purple loosestrife is pollinated by bees and butterflies, both of which have long tongues. It reaches a height of about 1 to 1.5 meters (roughly 3–4 feet).
