Interestingly, on cloudy days, these flowers may not close at all. Another commonly used name, “Marvel of Peru,” likely originates from their native roots in the tropical regions of South America. The term “Mirabilis” itself means wonderful in Latin. Typically grown as a half-hardy annual despite being a perennial, this plant forms robust, bushy structures, but it’s essential to note that its seeds are poisonous if ingested.
Given their evening blooming pattern, Four O’Clocks are best planted in areas where you can fully enjoy their presence and catch a whiff of their fragrance.
