A Half-hardy annual, this tall, bushy cosmos is mostly noted for its distinctive flower form. Seashells Cosmos produce exquisite, tubular-petalled blooms somewhat similar to a sea shell in lovely pastel colours of white, pink, rose and crimson. The finely cut foliage and delicate, colourful flowers make an outstanding background planting that blooms all summer long. Cosmos are easy to grow and literally thrive on neglect, garden height is 3 to 4ft and its long stems are excellent for cutting.
Cosmos is one of the best nectar plants for attracting bees and butterflies to the garden and the flowers are perfect for pressing. Very easy to grow, making it a perfect choice for children or the less experienced gardener. Excellent in beds and borders as well as the cutting garden. The plants are also perfect for container plantings where their toughness and showiness can keep the flower show going all through the summer.

Sowing & Growing
Sow Cosmos seed from March to May at a depth of 3mm (1/8″) in a good quality seed compost, and cover the seeds with a very fine sprinkling of vermiculite. Place the seed tray in a propagator at a temperature of 18-25C (64-77F) or seal it inside a polythene bag. Keep the soil damp but not wet. Do not exclude light as this aids germination which usually takes 7-15 days.
When seedlings are large enough to handle, transplant into 7cm (3″) pots and grow them on in cooler conditions until large enough to plant outdoors. When Cosmos plants are well grown and all risk of frost has passed, acclimatise them to outdoor conditions over 7 to 10 days. Transplant outdoors in full sun in any moist, well drained soil at a distance of 45cm (18″) apart. Pinch out the growing tip of each stem when transplanting to encourage stems to branch and produce more Cosmos flowers.

I have just bought all my new seeds for next year’s vegetables after having such great results this year. Budget seeds are so helpful, I’m a newbie in the veg growing world and they have been helpful in choosing the best seeds to start with etc. also much cheaper than elsewhere so if I do mess up in the future it isn’t costing me so much. I thoroughly recommend Budget Seeds for all your veg and flower seeds.
