English lavender (Lavandula angustifolia), renowned for its fragrant leaves and blossoms, is commonly recognized as an herb; however, it’s a herbaceous perennial with semi-woody growth. As part of the mint family, this plant often undergoes an annual pruning, cutting back its woody stems to ground level. True lavender showcases aromatic purple-blue flowers and slender, grey-green leaves, making it a commercial favourite due to its high oil content. Boasting heat and drought resistance, this perennial demands minimal care once it takes root.

Sowing & Growing
Sow in trays, pots, or similar containers with good seed compost, placing them in a propagator or a warm location to maintain an optimal temperature of 60-65F (15-18C). Use well-drained compost and lightly cover the seeds. This process can be undertaken at any time of the year, but germination may be gradual. After sowing, enclose the container in a polythene bag and keep it at 60-65F (15-18C) for 2 weeks. Then, transfer it to a refrigerator (not the freezer) for 3-6 weeks. Following this cold period, return the container to the recommended germination temperature.
If germination hasn’t occurred in 6-10 weeks, repeat the refrigeration for another 3-6 weeks. Regularly check the seeds for signs of germination while in the fridge, and promptly remove them if germination is detected. Transplant the seedlings into 7.5cm (3in) pots once they are large enough to handle. Grow them in a cold frame and plant them outdoors the following spring, spacing them 30cm (12in) apart in full sun.

I have just bought all my new seeds for next year’s vegetables after having such great results this year. Budget seeds are so helpful, I’m a newbie in the veg growing world and they have been helpful in choosing the best seeds to start with etc. also much cheaper than elsewhere so if I do mess up in the future it isn’t costing me so much. I thoroughly recommend Budget Seeds for all your veg and flower seeds.
