Marmande is a beefsteak type of tomato which is the variety beloved of French holidays. The plant produces large uneven shaped fruits of deep red. It is a later maturing variety but the rich sweet flavour is definitely worth waiting for.

Sowing & Growing
Sow seeds thinly in seed trays of seed & potting compost or 2-3 seeds in small pots and cover lightly with a little compost. Firm compost gently and water carefully. Keep in heated greenhouse/propagator at about 15-20°C. Transplant into larger individual pots when 10cm tall. ‘Harden off’ plants for 3-4 days before finally planting them outside from May to June, at a spacing of 45cm between plants.
It is best to plant deeply to a depth of 0.5cm below the seed leaves – this helps to give a nice sturdy plant. This variety can also be grown in a greenhouse in a large pot/greenhouse soil or grow bags.

I have just bought all my new seeds for next year’s vegetables after having such great results this year. Budget seeds are so helpful, I’m a newbie in the veg growing world and they have been helpful in choosing the best seeds to start with etc. also much cheaper than elsewhere so if I do mess up in the future it isn’t costing me so much. I thoroughly recommend Budget Seeds for all your veg and flower seeds.
