Sowing & Growing
To optimize its growth and allow for full ripening, it is recommended to cultivate this variety under glass in the UK, providing an extended maturation period. Due to its considerable size, adequate spacing between plants is advisable. For sowing, plant seeds at a depth of 1/16 inch in early spring, with germination typically occurring in 6-14 days at temperatures of 18-24°C.
Once the seedlings reach a suitable size, transplant them into 3” pots. Continue nurturing them under cooler conditions until they reach a height of around 8 inches. At this point, position them in the greenhouse and plant them 24-36 inches apart. Regularly provide support and secure the plants, removing side shoots and maintaining a single main stem. In late summer, trim the growing tip to expedite the ripening process.
