Sowing & Growing
Sow the black cherry tomato seeds sparsely in a seed tray, small pots, or cells. Cover them lightly, water gently, and place them on a windowsill at a temperature of 20-25 degrees Celsius, which is optimal for tomatoes, aubergines, peppers, and chillies—especially for fruiting vegetables. For best results, initiate these vegetable seeds in a heated seed propagator or greenhouse. Within 8-20 days, depending on growing conditions, the vegetables will germinate. Most vegetable seeds produce seedlings in this timeframe, relying on available moisture and temperatures for successful sprouting.
Once the seedlings have developed two pairs of true leaves, transplant them into individual small pots. Later, they may need to be repotted if growing rapidly and becoming large. Ensure that tomato leaves do not overlap to allow ample air circulation, reducing the risk of diseases in young and delicate tomato plants. Keep temperatures between 12-20 degrees Celsius during this period.
Plant the black cherry tomato plants outdoors between mid-May and June, ensuring there is no risk of frost in your area. Plant them at a spacing of 80×60 cm or keep them in the greenhouse or polytunnel in a growbag or rich, moist soil. Support the growing stems with twine and implement a training system to guide their growth. Cordon tomatoes, named for their vertical growth, should be restricted to one main stem. Begin removing side shoots from the start of the growing season when plants have 2-3 pairs of true leaves.
When cultivating black cherry tomatoes, adhere to the common gardener’s practice of stopping the plant’s growth by pinching out the top growing point when 4-5 trusses have formed outdoors or 6-7 trusses under cover. Remove lower yellowing leaves to facilitate fruit ripening and improve air circulation around the plants, reducing humidity and protecting against diseases that thrive in humid conditions.

I have just bought all my new seeds for next year’s vegetables after having such great results this year. Budget seeds are so helpful, I’m a newbie in the veg growing world and they have been helpful in choosing the best seeds to start with etc. also much cheaper than elsewhere so if I do mess up in the future it isn’t costing me so much. I thoroughly recommend Budget Seeds for all your veg and flower seeds.
