Sowing & Growing
The best time to sow strawberry sweetcorn in the UK is in late April to early May when the soil temperature has warmed up to around 12-15°C. You can start the seeds indoors in trays or pots filled with seed compost or sow them directly in the soil. If sowing indoors, keep the trays in a warm and bright place and make sure to water the seeds regularly.
Once the seedlings have emerged and grown to around 10-15cm tall, you can transplant them into their final positions in the garden. Choose a sunny and sheltered spot with well-drained soil. The ideal temperature for growing sweetcorn is between 18-24°C, so make sure to keep the plants warm and protected from any late frosts.
When planting, space the strawberry sweetcorn plants around 30cm apart and in rows that are 60-90cm apart. Make sure to plant them deep enough so that the roots are covered but the stem and leaves are above the soil surface. Water the plants regularly and deeply, especially during dry periods, and fertilize them every few weeks with a balanced fertilizer.
Strawberry sweetcorn is ready to harvest when the corn silks turn brown and dry, and the kernels are plump and milky when you puncture them with your fingernail. This usually occurs around 70-90 days after sowing, depending on the weather conditions. To harvest, simply twist the cobs off the plant, and remove the husks to reveal the delicious kernels.

I have just bought all my new seeds for next year’s vegetables after having such great results this year. Budget seeds are so helpful, I’m a newbie in the veg growing world and they have been helpful in choosing the best seeds to start with etc. also much cheaper than elsewhere so if I do mess up in the future it isn’t costing me so much. I thoroughly recommend Budget Seeds for all your veg and flower seeds.
