The Bolivian Fuchsia is an evergreen shrub or small tree that grows to around 15 feet tall. Its large stature and oversized leaves give it a great tropical look. It comes from cool cloud forests, where it doesn’t freeze, but it also doesn’t get very warm. It might not thrive in areas that regularly get above 85° F (29°C), particularly if nights are warm. If other Fuchsias grow in your area, you should be able to grow this one. It can only handle a few degrees of frost; protection from freezing temperatures is recommended. It grows well indoors, and may be pruned to any height that’s convenient. It prefers filtered sun, or morning sun + bright shade. Over about 40% humidity is recommended. In the right conditions, it is a vigorous plant, blooming almost every month of the year! This species is resistant to Fuchsia mites.

Germination; Sow indoors or under glass in spring. Prior to sowing soak seed for up to 3 days in water. Mix seed with a little dry silver sand to aid sowing, then surface sow onto moist, well-drained seed compost. Keep the soil moist at all times. Propagate or place in a clear plastic bag. Ideal temp. 15-24°C. Germination takes 6 weeks approx. Even under ideal conditions germination can be erratic. Transplant seedlings when large enough to handle to individual pots and grow on under glass for their 1st winter. Acclimatise and plant out the following year after danger of frost has passed or grow on under glass.
Growing; Prefers a humus-rich, well-drained but moist soil in a partially shaded position. Not very hardy in the UK. Prone to frost damage at 0°C. Can be grown outside but moved inside for winter, may survive in the mildest areas if offered the protection of a wall. May be grown under glass or in the greenhouse.
Cultivation; Will remain evergreen if the temperature remains above 4°C. Propagate via cuttings of semi-ripe wood in summer.

I have just bought all my new seeds for next year’s vegetables after having such great results this year. Budget seeds are so helpful, I’m a newbie in the veg growing world and they have been helpful in choosing the best seeds to start with etc. also much cheaper than elsewhere so if I do mess up in the future it isn’t costing me so much. I thoroughly recommend Budget Seeds for all your veg and flower seeds.
