Beetroot ‘Detroit Globe’ stands as a time-tested main crop variety that continues to exhibit excellent performance. Originating from Northern Africa and Western Asia, beetroot has served as a food plant for over 2000 years. The Romans introduced beetroot to Northern Europe, while the Celts cultivated a white beetroot variant (Beta rapa). The mention of Red Beetroot first appeared in the 13th century in northern Italy. However, it wasn’t until the 17th century that red beetroot emerged as the predominant type in Europe.

Sowing & Growing
It’s crucial to keep in mind that most beetroot seeds come in clusters, containing more than one seed. Planting a single seed may result in the germination of three to five seedlings. To ensure proper growth, these seedlings should be thinned to one soon after germination to avoid stunted beetroot growth.
For direct sowing, plant beetroot seeds outdoors from March to July in a sunny, weed-free area with fertile, light, and well-drained soil. Sow the beetroot seeds thinly in shallow drills at a depth of 3cm (1″) and maintain a spacing of 30cm (12″) between rows. Germination typically occurs within 12 to 24 days. Once the seedlings are large enough to handle, thin them within each row to 10cm (4″) apart.

I have just bought all my new seeds for next year’s vegetables after having such great results this year. Budget seeds are so helpful, I’m a newbie in the veg growing world and they have been helpful in choosing the best seeds to start with etc. also much cheaper than elsewhere so if I do mess up in the future it isn’t costing me so much. I thoroughly recommend Budget Seeds for all your veg and flower seeds.
