Onion Red Baron is a beautiful deep blood red coloured onion with slightly flattened globe shaped bulbs that will keep into the new year. It has late maincrop maturity with good skin and thin necks. One of the most popular crops for the gardener, onions are a huge must for any allotment holder or for the gardener who has their own little vegetable garden at home, as they are so versatile and can be used for a variety of different things.

Sowing & Growing
Sow February to April, early sowing can be made under glass in pots or seed trays, sow seed on the surface of seed sowing compost and lightly cover with a sprinkling or vermiculite or compost, and place at a temperature of 14°C.
Outdoor sowings can be made in April, sow seed thinly in shallow drills 1.5cm (1/2in) deep, with rows spaced 30cm (12in) apart.
Greenhouse sown seedlings can be pricked out into individual pots or modular trays. Move plants to a cold frame in April to harden off before planting outside 15-20cm (6-8in) apart. Outdoor sowings can be thinned gradually until plants are 15-20cm (6-8in) apart, then leave to mature as smaller bulbs for storing.
Maturity is between August to September. Very attractive for use raw in salads, slice across the bulbs to produce lovely red and white rings.

I have just bought all my new seeds for next year’s vegetables after having such great results this year. Budget seeds are so helpful, I’m a newbie in the veg growing world and they have been helpful in choosing the best seeds to start with etc. also much cheaper than elsewhere so if I do mess up in the future it isn’t costing me so much. I thoroughly recommend Budget Seeds for all your veg and flower seeds.
